The American Petroleum Institute (API) is a trade organization that represents the oil and gas industry in the United States.
Since 1924, API has been the leader in developing equipment and operating standards for the oil and natural gas industry. API works with subject-matter experts from the O&G industry to maintain an inventory of over 600 standards and recommended practices. API standards are designed to assist industry professionals improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their operations, comply with legislative and regulatory requirements, safeguard health, and protect the environment.
